Dr. Deondra Smith

CEO, Clinical Director, Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Deondra Smith has extensive experience in working with young children, adolescents and adults. She believes that every client, despite age, deserves to be respected, heard and understood. Within her experience in both school-based settings and outpatient settings, Dr. Smith has provided consultation to school personnel, parents and therapeutic staff about early identification and treatment of academic and behavioral concerns in young children. As a psychologist that provides both therapeutic services and psychological evaluations, Dr. Smith integrates a systemic approach into her service delivery and overall treatment approach. She recognizes the importance of the various systems that make up an individual’s life such as, but not limited to, family and school systems.

As a native of The Bahamas, Dr. Smith has provided psychological assessments and therapeutic treatment to children and adolescents of The Bahamas, and strongly believes in the consideration of culture in analysis and interpretation of test results. She earned her PsyD (Doctorate) in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology (ASPP) at Argosy University located in Arlington, Virginia. She also obtained her master’s degree from ASPP, and dual Bachelor’s degree in Psychological Science and Ethnic Studies from Albion College in Albion, Michigan.

Andy Moxey

Licensed Therapist (LMSW)

Psychotherapist Andy Moxey is a Licensed Therapist in the State of Maryland. He holds a master’s degree in Social Work from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, and a bachelor’s degree in Theology-ministerial leadership and counseling from the Caribbean Nazarene College located in Trinidad & Tobago. Andy has experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults in various outpatient mental health roles. He has experience in individual, group, and family counseling that centers around mood disorders (depression, anxiety), ADHD, ADD, ODD, and conduct disorder.

Andy believes that people are resilient and takes a collaborative approach to help individuals recognize their capacity to understand and overcome challenges in their lives as a life-skill. As a therapist, he relies on a system approach in his practice as much as he does on an eclectic approach to guide his service delivery and treatment process of understanding his clients, their challenges, and developing solutions. Andy is a strong proponent of cognitive-behavioral therapy and person-centered psychotherapy.

Mohamed Ahedai

Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Therapist (LCSW-C)

Mohamed Alhedai is a Licensed Master’s Social Worker in the state of Maryland. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Howard University. Mohamed is experienced working with adolescents, adults, and families, working within the school setting and various mental health agencies.

Mohamed uses a collaborative approach and believes people have the strength and resilience to make the necessary changes to improve their quality of life. Mohamed believes every client deserves to be valued, respected and understood.

Carrie Boone

Carrie Boone LCSW-C is licensed in the state of Maryland. She holds a master’s degree in Social Work and a Certification as a Grief Informed Professional. Carrie enjoys motivating, challenging and inspiring others to being the best version of themselves.

Carrie believes that we all possess inner strength and resilience that once channeled, can improve our lives in a positive way. She utilizes a strengths-based and collaborative approach to assist individuals in recognizing challenges and formulating plans to overcome them.

Additionally Carrie is also a self-published author of a book about Grief and Loss titled: Unbelievable Grief: Incredible Grace, a memoir. She enjoys helping others charter their own personal grief and loss journeys.

I believe that we all possess inner strength and resilience that once channeled, can improve our lives in a positive way. I utilize a strengths-based and collaborative approach to assist others in recognizing challenges and formulating plans to overcome them. According Abraham Maslow, “In any given moment, we have two options: to step forward into growth or to step back into safety.”

I am also experienced in working with a diverse population of individuals in a one-on-one setting to navigate complex issues such as: anxiety, depression, lack of assertiveness skills, low self-esteem, negative thinking and behaving, stress management, and grief and loss. I also have training in Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral therapy and a certification as a Certified Grief Informed Professional. Adriana Espinoza

Clinical Coordinator, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C), Certified Suicide Bereavement Counselor, Therapist

Adriana, a  New Jersey transplant, moved to Maryland nearly a decade ago with her husband, children, and Great Dane. As a Certified Suicide Bereavement Clinician, she specializes in grief and trauma counseling.

Adriana enjoys teaching classes and workshops that help individuals cope with various types of losses—both physical and ambiguous. Her experience extends to working with foster youth, first responders, and trauma survivors in her community. She provides services to children, young adults transitioning to independence, and adults of all ages.

With both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work, focusing on child abuse and neglect, Adriana has been practicing in the field for seven years. Currently licensed as an LMSW, she is actively pursuing her LCSW-C license.

Poonam McKnight

Training Coordinator & Licensed Professional Counselor (LCPC-S)

Poonam, a licensed clinical therapist and supervisor, specializes in multicultural and trauma counseling for children, families, and adults of color. With experience in community, school, and detention-based settings in DC/Maryland, she is dedicated to social justice and equipping future mental health professionals with cultural competence.

As our Training Coordinator, she oversees the training and mentorship of counseling interns to ensure ethical, hands-on experience with underrepresented populations. Rooted in humanistic and existential approaches, Poonam emphasizes holistic, client-centered therapy for healing and growth.

Kaia Glacken

Administrative Assistant & Operations Coordinator

Kaia serves as the Administrative Assistant & Operations Coordinator for BTConcepts, where she is dedicated to ensuring every client’s experience is welcoming and seamless. Kaia received her Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Counseling & Human Services from Stevenson University, and is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in School Counseling at Loyola University Maryland, where she continues to deepen her expertise in supporting child development through counseling services.

As the first point of contact, Kaia provides timely and compassionate responses to client inquiries, carefully triaging client needs, and directing concerns while ensuring thorough follow-up. She also supports schedule management, appointment coordination, and helps optimize the use of clinical resources to ensure the highest level of care for clients. Her commitment to professionalism, empathy, and attention to detail allows her to create a welcoming experience for every client while supporting the overall efficiency of the practice.

Mariah Marbury

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program (PRP) Coordinator, Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW), Therapist

Mariah is a Clinical Social Worker with a deep-rooted passion for guiding individuals toward whole-person wellness. She earned her undergraduate degree in Healthcare Management from Western Governors University and completed her Master’s in Clinical Social Work at Howard University. Mariah approaches mental health through both a therapeutic and systems-level lens, bridging strategy and personal identity.

Her work is grounded in a holistic, evidence-based methodology that targets the connection between the body, heart, and mind. She partners with clients to facilitate sustainable, measurable transformation they can feel and see. Whether we’re unpacking generational trauma, exploring subconscious beliefs, or identifying patterns shaped by community and environment, she helps clients align with their purpose, activate their healing, and shape their legacy.

Dr. Carla Corsey

Licensed Psychologist & Clinical Supervisor

Dr. Corsey has extensive experience working in a variety of clinical settings, She works with children, adults, and families coping with a range of psychological conditions and related uncomfortable symptoms including those related to anxiety, depression, identity development, interpersonal difficulties, Autism, and ADHD. Dr. Corsey has considerable experience conducting psychological assessments with children, adolescents, and adults to help identify strengths and vulnerabilities related to learning disabilities, developmental differences, attentional challenges, social-emotional differences, and other differences that impact daily functioning. Dr. Corsey provides comprehensive evaluations utilizing evidence-based educational, intellectual, cognitive, & social-emotional measures. Dr. Corsey provides an individualized approach with therapy as well as assessments to ensure that personal goals are met.

Dr. Corsey completed her doctorate training in Clinical Psychology at Argosy University. She is a licensed psychologist in Maryland. Dr. Corsey also holds a Master’s degree from Bowie State University.

Dr. Erick Guzman

Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Erick Guzman holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University and is a licensed psychologist in the state of Maryland. He currently provides psychological assessments for Breakthrough Therapeutic Concepts. Dr. Guzman works from a collaborative therapeutic framework, in which assessment is approached as a collaborative endeavor in which the psychologist works together with a client to help them catch glimpses of their everyday lived experience. By providing an assessment environment in which referral questions can be explored together in depth, assessment reports correspondingly provide more meaningful information and recommendations, and clients are better able to integrate information gathered from the findings into their lived experience in meaningful ways.

He has experience administering and interpreting psychological assessments for adults, adolescents, and children in community mental health and private practice settings, including cognitive, personality, and projective tests, to obtain diagnostic clarification for a variety of mental health concerns. Additionally, he has received specialized training in psychological assessment for the diagnosis of pediatric neurodevelopmental disorders, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD

Robin Bunting

Licensed Masters Social Worker (LMSW)

Robin is a Licensed Master of Social Work Therapist in Maryland who has been practicing mental health and social work for over 20 years. She is a native to the DMV area and has experience and knowledge of Anne Arundel County. Robin provides psychotherapy services to adults and couples who are managing a range of struggles, from life stressors to major mental illnesses. Robin is currently working on her doctorate in Social Work at the University of Kentucky and she has earned her master’s degree from Howard University in Social Work and a bachelor’s degree from The University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Robin has both experience in mental health as well as Health Care and Case Management.

Robin brings a unique and powerful approach to helping clients transform their lives. She has a very compassionate and empathetic nature, creating a safe and supportive space for individuals to explore their challenges and experiences. Robin is motivated by a genuine desire to help others. She goes above and beyond to understand each individual’s unique needs and goals. Robin believes in working collaboratively with a person in an effort to help him or her develop more effective coping skills, reduce/eliminate any underlying cognitive distortions, increase positive feelings/emotions, and promote healthier behaviors and interpersonal relationships.

Ayrricka Street

Psychological Associate

Ayrricka Street received a B.A. in Psychology from North Carolina A&T State University and her master’s degree in Health Psychology from Grand Canyon University. She is currently pursuing her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School. Her current research interests are related to trauma-informed care, play therapy, and holistic health.

Kim Hinkle

Billing & Credentialing Coordinator

Kim brings three years of experience in medical billing and credentialing, specializing in claims management, payer communications, and provider enrollments. She is detail-oriented and committed to accuracy, with a passion for streamlining workflows so providers can stay focused on patient care.

Outside of her work at Breakthrough, Kim runs a home bakery, enjoys learning new things, and is a proud mom of two. She values honesty, hard work, and finding joy in both her professional and personal life.

Kayla Headley

Doctoral Clinical Psychology Extern

Kayla is currently in her second year as a Clinical Psychology student at Stevenson University and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice. She has past clinical experience working with adults in a residential population. Kayla also has professional experience in a correctional setting. Kayla provides therapy services for clients across various ages, and administers psychological assessments while under licensed supervision.

Mary Sam

Doctoral Clinical Psychology Extern

Mary is a second-year doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at Stevenson University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Human Services and a master’s degree in Sport & Performance Psychology. Mary is passionate about the intersection of trauma, injury, and mental performance within sport and clinical psychology. She has extensive experience working with children and young adults (ages 2–21) across diverse settings—including Sunday school, summer camps, afterschool programs, therapeutic environments, and residential facilities—as well as supporting athletes in enhancing their mental performance.
